Dissection of Goat Heart
The
Main purpose of the activity was to let the students observe the chambers of a
goat’s heart. Teacher
sliced open the heart vertically using scalpels. Students
identified the four chambers using hand lens and observed aorta and openings
for pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein. They also discussed the path of the
blood through the heart i.e. how does blood flow through these chambers. The
students thoroughly enjoyed their first experience of a dissection and learned
more than they would have through a sample theoretical explanation.
